Day Hike

8-10 miles

Since we have a group camping for the weekend, we're going to check out more trails! These are actual dirt trails with hills and surrounded by trees and some wildlife.

Total Mileage: 8-10 miles - we’re doing a different trail than the Black Friday hike. ??

Member Only Information:  Please login to view:

Level of Difficulty:  All levels - about 22-25 min miles

We don’t leave anyone behind. The faster people will loop back to meet up with the rest of the group and we’ll regroup at intersections so everyone knows where to go.

What to bring:

  • Water
  • Long pants
  • Sun & bug protection
  • Sturdy Shoes
  • Snacks / Lunch.  We’ll stop on the trail to eat.

After the Hike:

  • Camping chair to relax
  • Snacks/lunch etc to hang out afterward

Dog-friendly for friendly dogs - must bring water and poop bags for your dog

Not Kid-friendly due to the length of the hike.

Fees:

$3 entrance fee per person

This is not a TX State Park so your park pass will not work.

The entrance fee is paid at the park when you arrive.  Please allow extra time to get through the front gate & drive to the parking lot.

How to find the group:

Peach Creek Group Camping Spot.  There is a parking lot near the nature center.  Look for the HTXoutdoors and Bayou City Outdoors sign at the entrance of the parking lot.

We’ll group at the campsite that’s across from the parking lot.

Parking:

There is plenty of parking near the start location.  The parking lot is at the back of the park so please allow extra time to drive there and arrive on time for the hike.

Start Time:

Arrive at 10 am for a 10:15 am the sharp start time.

About the Park:

“Lake Houston Wilderness Park encompasses 4,786.6 acres of wooded parkland, approximately 30 minutes north of downtown Houston off of Highway 59 near the town of New Caney. It is the only park in the H.P.A.R.D. system where overnight camping is available. A vehicle bridge over Peach Creek has opened the entire park to access by automobile.

Cabins and walk-in campsites are available for rental. Activities include hiking and biking on 20 miles of hike and bike trails, kayaking on tree-lined creeks, and horseback riding on 13 miles of equestrian trails. (Bring your own bikes, watercraft, and horses).

The park is a wilderness park and is heavily forested, so visitors need to be aware that wildlife in the park includes several species of snakes. Please remember that conditions on natural waterways change without warning, so keep safety in mind as you paddle the creeks.”  by Lake Houston Wilderness Park.
