BCO Hike Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park preserves some of the most beautiful alpine meadows, lakes, pristine forests, rugged peaks and glacially-carved valleys in the world.

Native Americans called it the "Backbone of the World." George Bird Grinnell referred to Glacier as the "Crown of the Continent.” Glacier's diverse habitats are home to nearly 70 species of mammals, including grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, wolverines, gray wolves and mountain lions. More than 275 species of birds visit or reside in the park as well, including such varied species as harlequin ducks, dippers, pelicans, sandhill cranes and golden eagles.

Glacier is also a hiker's paradise for adventurous types seeking wilderness and solitude. Let’s explore it with your BCO Buddies!

Important notes!

  • Exact dates will be determined after Jan 8, when the reservations for the Chalet can be made.  The dates I hope to get are July 14 - 22 (Fri - Sat)
  • Need a passport, we will be driving to the Canadian side of the park and staying 1 night.
  • Some days the group will be able to pick an easy or strenuous hike.  This trip may not be for you if you don't have any hiking experience, or are not in shape for a strenuous hike.
  • food - will buy groceries to pack lunches and or get breakfast food.  Dinner will be purchased
  • Many Glacier rooms will not have a restroom in the room.
  • Granite Chalet - need to bring a sleeping bag or can request sheet service for an additional fee.  Will need to hike in our food for lunch, dinner, breakfast and the next days lunch.
  • Will need to bring a large daypack for the Granite Chalet hike; and all the related items.  No electricity at the Chalet, outhouses on site.
  • This will be a hiking trip, we will be up early most mornings and hiking most days
  • This is grizzly country, I will get 3 cans of mace for the group and we need to be alert for bear.
  • Trails are subject to be closed for bear activity or other dangers (like fire), plans may need to change last minute.
  • Driving times are estimates based on no traffic slow downs, our drives across the park will most likely be slower.
  • Each person will be resposible for paying their portion of the trip costs. The trip costs for the group will include: vehicle rentals and gas (split evenly among the group), hotel room costs (split by room cost between the people in the room), misc charges: bear spray, park entrance fees and any other group items.  A spreadsheet of the trip fees will be sent at the end of the trip with final charges.  The group will be asked to pay a $100 deposit by Jan 8.  A second trip fee of $300 will be required on April 1 to pay for room deposits. After the trip is over everyone will be sent their final balance with the trip cost spreadsheet.
